Indore: A newborn boy found abandoned inside a water pipe near Mathuri village in Ratlam was rescued on Sunday morning. The infant, wrapped in a plastic bag kept inside a jute sack, was discovered around 10 am by a local farmer, who heard his cries while walking to his field near Ring Road intersection. On opening the sack, the farmer, Ambaram Patidar, found an infant with his umbilical cord still intact. Locals alerted emergency services and a team from DD Nagar police station arrived at the spot and took the infant to Mother and Child Care Unit.DD Nagar police station in-charge Anurag Yadav said that they were scanning regional CCTV footage and gathering data from local hospitals to track down the persons who abandoned the child. The infant appeared to have been born on Sunday morning. Due to overnight rainfall and the presence of stray animals in the area, officials pointed out that the infant would likely not have survived if he had been left there earlier during the night.Child welfare committee Ratlam wing chairman Shambhulal Mangroda said that the committee was coordinating with both hospital staff and police to ensure proper medical care to the newborn and assist in search for his biological parents.

Mangroda said that this was the second such incident in the region recently. A baby girl was abandoned in Jaora a week ago. “She is currently in hospital care with a CWC-assigned caretaker and is scheduled to be transferred to a children’s home on Monday,” he said.“According to CWC protocols, if biological parents or relatives cannot be located or refuse custody, the children will be declared legally free for adoption after the completion of necessary formalities,” Mangroda said.
