Newborn’s body found in sewage drain near lake in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A home guard on routine patrol duty Wednesday morning found the body of a newborn abandoned in a sewage drain near Vishwaneedam Lake, west Bengaluru.When Soumyasree was inspecting the lake around 11.30am on July 8, she noticed dirty water was flowing through a drain clogged with garbage.

On closer inspection, she found the body of the boy trapped among the waste.She rushed to the spot and found the infant was dead, with the body showing signs of decomposition and infestation by worms and flies.Soumyasree alerted Byadarahalli police and lodged a complaint, seeking legal action against the unidentified person who abandoned the newborn in the sewage drain.Police registered a case under BNS Section 94 (concealment of birth by secret disposal of a dead body) and examining CCTV footage from surrounding areas.
