Faulting the Opposition parties, the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) in particular, for their misleading claims on Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), the Telangana Government has clarified that there is no truth in the claims of the Opposition that 40 lakh tonne of coal produced by the coal miner was unaccounted for.
The campaign was aimed at diluting the prestige of the public sector miner and self respect of the scores of workers who are working hard for the firm. The government had put in place modern security measures like geo-fencing and there was no scope for any irregularities, the government said.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vkramarka said the government had directed the SCCL Vigilance Director to conduct a full scale inquiry into the issue so that facts pertaining to the coal mining company which was employing over 40,000 people could come out.
He asked whether the main Opposition could secure a single new block for the public sector miner during its close to 10-year tenure. The Opposition should clarify whether the then government could secure new blocks in place of the mines that were closed after exhausting resources. “The previous government which resorted to publicity campaign in the name of Bhadradri and Yadadri thermal plants should clarify as to why it could not secure firm coal linkages to these power plants,” Mr. Bhatti Vikramarka, who holds the Energy portfolio, asked on Friday (July 3, 2026).
He questioned as to why the previous previous government did not participate in the auction of coal blocks conducted by the Central Government. “With its reluctance to participate in coal block auction and inability to secure new mines, the previous government appeared to be determined to push the power sector into crisis,” he said wondering how the government decided to forego the revenue in the form of royalty had SCCL been given new blocks.
He alleged that the BRS government was responsible for the mining blocks Koyagudem and Sattupalli-3 going into the hands of private sector and alleged that the then government was bent on creating scarcity of coal so that it could be purchased from private parties. Charging the BRS leaders with giving priority to spreading lies for political gains than working for protecting the interests of the State, he said people had therefore taught fitting lesson to the party in the previous elections.
The Deputy Chief Minister also criticised the main Opposition leader K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao for their propaganda against the situation in the social welfare hostels.
