MUMBAI: Even as India have struggled in Tests and at times, in ODIs, they have stayed dominant in T20Is and are fresh off a 4-1 series win over New Zealand. Since winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, they haven’t lost a bilateral series.
They also lifted the Asia Cup last year.India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav said the team’s edge comes from keeping the same approach across bilaterals and big events. He also acknowledged a clear shift in how India now think about T20 cricket. “We’ve been playing a good brand of cricket for the last two or three years, but I think we have changed our thinking. Earlier, we used to play bilaterals differently from ICC tour naments, but now, whether it’s an ICC event, the Asia Cup or even a bilateral series, we try to play in the same manner.
Why this T20 World Cup could well see a 300 plus total | Will India create history?
“That is why, when we went to play the 2024 T20 World Cup, it did not feel any different. Rather, it felt like we had been playing this way for an entire year.“Even now, the kind of cricket we’ve been playing over the last year, we will try to play the same way in the T20 World Cup. And if we play well, the result will also be on our side,” Surya said at the captains’ meet.‘Will be patient with Sundar’Surya gave a fitness update on Washington Sundar, saying the off-spinning allrounder won’t be rushed back: “We are hoping Washington will follow the same slow path as Tilak Varma.”
