In a disturbing incident reported from Haryana’s Faridabad, a family was forced to carry the dead body of a 35-year-old woman on a cart as they couldn’t afford an ambulance. The cart was driven by the woman’s grandfather while her seven-year-old son and other family members were sitting at the back.
As per a report by The Times of India, the body was carried on a cart for a distance of 10 km, i.e., from Badshah Khan (BK) Civil Hospital to the woman’s house in Sarurpur. The seven-year-old child clutched the sheet draped over his mother’s body so that it didn’t blow away.
The tragic scene was witnessed by many as the cart went through heavy traffic areas.
Deceased woman, Anuradha, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday due to tuberculosis complications. However, she passed away at around 3 pm. Her family told TOI that they had spent all their savings on Anuradha’s treatment and could not afford ambulance services.
Ambulance Operator Asked For Rs 700
The family further added that the ambulance operator asked for Rs 700, and they couldn’t afford it. They even had to borrow money for the woman’s cremation.
It was further reported that Anuradha underwent treatment at multiple hospitals, including Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS.
The officials have assured an investigation into the matter while clarifying that the private ambulance operators are not under the health department’s control as they function independently.
