Palakkad sexual assault case: Bail plea hearing on May 19

The Kerala High Court (HC) has adjourned to May 19 the hearing on an anticipatory bail plea by Prasobh Valsan, a councillor of Palakkad Municipality, in a sexual assault case that was registered on the complaint of a dalit woman. 

He had been charged with sexually assaulting her after assuring her of a job. The Congress party had expelled him following the registration of the case. The High Court has in turn granted time to the woman complainant to submit her statement opposing the bail plea submitted by Mr. Prasobh. 

He had approached the HC seeking bail after a special court in Mannarkad dismissed his bail plea in April. The police had charged him under provisions of BNSS and the SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, in the case.
