A video purportedly featuring Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat surfaced online, with claims that he was calling for the “saffronisation" of the Indian Army and remove 50% of non-caste Hindus from the force.

In the video, he was purportedly heard stating, “I have clearly said that if you do not remove more than 50% of non-Hindus from the Indian Army by 2028, then understand that Modi will go and Yogi will come."

However, during its investigation, the Press Information Bureau’s Fact Check unit has flagged that the video circulating on social media is digitally manipulated. A fabricated audio track was overlaid to falsely claim that he spoke about the saffronisation of the Indian Army.

“Deepfake Video Alert. A digitally manipulated video of Mohan Bhagwat is circulating online with the false claim that he urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to saffronize the Indian Army and remove 50% of non-caste Hindus from the force," the post read.

The PIB Fact Check unit clarified that the video is fake and has been digitally altered.

PIB further cautioned the public against the circulation of manipulated videos aimed at spreading misinformation. “Beware! Such manipulated videos are being deliberately shared to mislead the public. Help STOP misinformation. If you come across such misleading or manipulated content, report it immediately," the post said, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious content.

Earlier, the PIB fact-checked the viral images of the leaked Union Budget 2026-27 and claimed that the pictures, which are being shared on social media, are fake.

Sharing several pictures of documents claimed to be related to the Union Budget set to be presented on February 1, PIB took to X and wrote, “Some images are being shared on social media claiming that a scanned copy of the Union Budget 2026–27 has been leaked on Telegram. These images are fake."

The PIB further pointed out that one of the images being circulated does not pertain to the Union Budget 2026–27 but is actually from the Union Budget 2025–26. It added that the front page of the document has been digitally altered to modify the year.

“Do not believe or forward unverified images or claims related to the Union Budget. Such misinformation can mislead the public and spread unnecessary panic," it added.
