A Special POCSO Court in Tenali on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) sentenced a 34-year-old man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹10,000 for sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl in Repalle of Bapatla district in 2022. The court also directed the government to pay ₹4 lakh as compensation to the victim.
The convict, Guduri Ramesh alias Salman Raju, a resident of Netaji Nagar in Repalle, was found guilty under Section 376(AB) of the IPC and Section 6 read with Section 5(m) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to police, the incident occurred on June 22, 2022, when the accused went to the victim’s house for painting work. The girl’s mother, who had kept her fever-stricken daughter at home after administering medicine, found the accused allegedly sexually assaulting the child after hearing her cries. Based on her complaint, the Repalle police registered a case and launched an investigation.
During the trial, Public Prosecutor Velineni Raghavaiah successfully established the prosecution's case through documentary, forensic and witness evidence. Special POCSO Court Judge M. Indira Priyadarshini delivered the verdict on Tuesday.
Bapatla Superintendent of Police B. Umamaheswar, commended the investigating officers, prosecutors and court monitoring staff for securing the conviction within three years of the case being registered through effective investigation and coordinated prosecution.
