A seven-year-old boy died after getting trapped between a lift’s collapsible door and the wall at a residential society in Pune’s Sinhagad Road area late on Monday night.

Sharing the ordeal, the father, Shailesh Dhoot, said, “Shivansh, my son, had gone to play in the ground. After some time, when my daughter returned, and I enquired from her about Shivansh, she said that he never came to the playground.:

“At this, my wife and I began to search for him. During the search, my wife noticed the lift was stuck and saw our son lying inside. We broke open the door to find that my son was stuck between the lift and the passage below," the minor’s father said.

“Fire Brigade and Police arrived at the scene. My son never used to play in the lift," he added.

Sinhgad Road Police have registered an accidental death case, and further investigation is underway.

This took place at Riddhi Siddhi Apartment in Nimbajnagar. The incident took place at around 10:30 pm inside the housing complex.

Police said the child sustained severe injuries in the accident and could not survive.

According to the Sinhagad Road police, initial findings suggest the boy had entered the lift while playing within the residential society premises. After residents alerted authorities, police personnel and a fire brigade team rushed to the spot to carry out the rescue operation.

Senior Inspector Vinay Patankar from Sinhagad Road police station said the child was found critically injured after getting stuck inside the lift structure.

Fire brigade personnel reached the spot after the incident was reported. Fire Officer Prabhakar Umratkar said the rescue team found the boy trapped between the collapsible lift door and the wall space between the ground and first floors. Police said the child later succumbed to grievous injuries.

Senior Inspector Vinay Patankar said authorities are examining whether any fault in the lift’s mechanism or maintenance may have contributed to the accident.

As part of the investigation, police will seek a technical report from the concerned Lift Inspectors. Statements of the boy’s family members and residents of the society are also expected to be recorded.
