The family of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who was allegedly killed by his wife during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, welcomed a baby boy on Sunday and named him Raja, believing he had been reborn into the family.

The child was born to Raja’s elder brother, Sachin, who claimed a priest from Kamakhya Temple had told him during the 13th-day ritual that the 29-year-old would be reborn in the family as his death was not natural.

Sachin also pointed to the timing of his child's birth to argue that Raja had been reborn. "Raja died on the eleventh day of the lunar fortnight at around 2:40 pm, while the child was born on the same day at around 2:42 pm," he said.

He added that his sister-in-law had always looked after his younger brother with great care, treating him as if he were her own son.

“Whatever that transpired was God's will. Raja's birth has brought some relief to our family after months of grief," said Uma Raghuvanshi, Sachin's mother. "When we call out to him as ‘Raja,’ he looks at us as if he recognises us from before," she claimed.

REVISITING THE MURDER CASE

Raja was hacked to death on May 23, 2025 near the Weisawdong Falls in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. His decomposed body was found on June 2, days after a search was launched by local police.

Raja's family had alleged that the killing was premeditated and ritualistic.

His wife, Sonam (25), along with her alleged boyfriend Raj Kushwaha (25) and three others accused of executing the murder, were arrested.

After disappearing following the murder, Sonam surfaced in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh — over 1,200 km away — and surrendered to the police in the early hours of June 9, 2025.

In September 2025, the Meghalaya Police filed a 790-page chargesheet, concluding its probe into a case that shocked the country.

Five people, including Sonam and her lover were charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, and destruction of evidence.
