Lewandowski has scored a goal against 41 different teams in the UEFA Champions League, which is one more than Lionel Messi's tally of 40.

Robert Lewandowski, who is one of the greatest strikers of all time, entered his name in the history books on Wednesday (March 18) by breaking Lionel Messi’s world record of scoring against the most teams in the UEFA Champions League. The legendary footballer from Argentina played 163 matches in the premier European competition and scored 129 goals for two teams – FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain – against 40 different teams. But Lewandowski’s brace on Wednesday against Newcastle United at Camp Nou helped him take his tally of goals to 109 against 41 different teams in the UEFA Champions League.

The legendary footballer from Poland, who has represented Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, has scored 109 goals against 41 different teams in 142 matches.

In the Champions League, Lewandowski, who won the title with Bayern Munich in 2020, has scored 6 goals against Real Madrid, four vs Barcelona, two against Atletico Madrid and one each against Malaga and Villarreal.

He also goals to his name against five teams from Serie A, two from Bundesliga, four from Ligue 1, two each from Portugal, Netherlands, Ukraine, Greece, Russia, Belgium, and Czech Republic clubs and one each against teams from Denmark, Switzerland, Austria, Serbia, Croatia and Turkey.

In addition to breaking Messi’s record of scoring goals against most teams in the Champions League, Lewandowski also broke the record of being the oldest footballer to score multiple goals in a Champions League match.

At the age of 37 years and 209 days, Lewandowski scored a brace against the Magpies at Barcelona’s home stadium. The previous record was held by Filippo Inzaghi. Filippo Inzaghi was 37 years and 89 days old when he scored a brace for AC Milan against Real Madrid on November 3, 2010.

He is also the oldest footballer to score a goal in a knockout match of UEFA Champions League.
