A purported video of Pradeep Dixit, a BJP municipal chairman from Sikandrabad in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr district, has gone viral on social media over an alleged statement targeting Trinamool Congress MP Saayoni Ghosh.
In the video, Dixit is allegedly heard announcing a reward of Rs 1 crore for anyone who beheads the TMC leader.
However, the civic body chief later denied making any such statement and claimed the video had been manipulated using artificial intelligence technology to damage his image.
What we know about the incident?
According to reports, Hindu organisations organised a protest in Sikandrabad on Sunday over allegations that Saayoni Ghosh had shared an objectionable social media post related to Lord Shiva and the Shivling.
The groups claimed the post hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community. Several people reportedly attended the protest demonstration.

Pradeep Dixit denies statement
After the video went viral, Pradeep Dixit rejected the allegations against him. Speaking about the matter, he said the footage was taken during a procession held on Sunday but claimed it had later been tampered with.
Dixit alleged that miscreants used AI technology to alter the video before circulating it on social media platforms.
“I have not made any such statement," he said.
No official confirmation regarding the authenticity of the video has been reported so far.
Earlier controversy around Saayoni Ghosh
The controversy also brought back attention to an earlier dispute involving Saayoni Ghosh and a social media post linked to her X account.
In 2015, a derogatory tweet about Lord Shiva posted from her account triggered a major controversy, with many accusing her of hurting religious sentiments.
The matter resurfaced six years later after she entered politics.
Former Bengal BJP chief and former governor Tathagata Roy lodged a complaint against Saayoni Ghosh at Kolkata’s Rabindra Sarobar police station over the issue.
In his complaint, Roy stated that he was a devotee of Lord Shiva and had undertaken the Kailash-Mansarovar Yatra on foot in 1996 to offer prayers.
He said the image shared from Saayoni Ghosh’s account had hurt his religious sentiments and requested police to investigate the matter and take necessary action.
BJP repeatedly raised the matter during elections
Saayoni Ghosh later issued a clarification claiming that her social media account had been hacked.
Despite the explanation, the controversy continued. During the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections, BJP leaders repeatedly targeted her over the image linked to her X profile.
The issue surfaced again during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections when she contested from the Jadavpur constituency.
