Unnikrishnan Potty, the main accused in the Sabarimala gold theft case, has been granted bail in the second case related to the sanctum sanctorum door frames.

He is set to be released from jail, as he had already secured bail earlier in the Dwarapalaka idols case.

The court granted statutory bail after the chargesheet was not filed within the stipulated 90 days.

Meanwhile, Kerala Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan took a swipe at the Kerala government, accusing it of shielding the accused.

On the Opposition MLAs protest outside the Assembly said, the LoP said, “The protest is unfolding both inside and outside the Assembly. As we have repeatedly warned, the investigation into the Sabarimala gold heist is moving dangerously off course. All the accused who should be behind bars are walking free, while those who ought to be arrested remain untouched. It is alarming that the probe is not extending to all the key individuals involved. These accused appear to be those most important to the CPI(M) and to the government itself."

Earlier this week, Kollam Vigilance Court granted statutory bail to former Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) administrative officer Murari Babu in two cases related to the Sabrimala gold case.

The court granted him bail 90 days passed from his arrest and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) did not file the chargesheets within the required time.

Murari Babu was the second accused in the case involving the alleged loss of gold from the Dwarapalaka idol plates and the sixth accused in the case linked to the missing gold from the Sreekovil doorframes.

The Sabrimala old case pertains to the allegations of alleged irregularities of approximately 4.54 kilograms of gold from sacred temple artefacts, including the Sreekovil (sanctum sanctorum) door frames and Dwarapalaka idols.

The alleged diversion took place in 2019 during works said to be for refinishing and re-gold-plating parts of the temple.
