In a major push towards environmental conservation and ecological restoration, the Andhra Pradesh government has launched an ambitious statewide initiative to prepare and distribute 2.5 crore seed balls.
The programme is being spearheaded by Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Forests and Environment K. Pawan Kalyan with the objective of increasing green cover, strengthening biodiversity and promoting environmental sustainability across the State.
The Forest Department has initiated extensive preparations for the large-scale campaign, which is being envisioned as a people’s movement. The initiative seeks to promote ecological balance and ensure a cleaner environment for future generations through active public participation.
As part of the programme, large-scale seed ball preparation activities will be undertaken across Andhra Pradesh during June. Public representatives, women from self-help groups, government employees, students, youth organisations, environmental volunteers, NGOs and citizens from different sections of society will participate in the campaign.
The Forest Department plans to make effective use of the monsoon season by dispersing the seed balls across the State during July and August. Officials have identified three methods for distribution — direct scattering, manual planting and aerial dispersal using drone technology in forest regions and inaccessible terrains.
The initiative is aimed at improving biodiversity in forest areas, restoring ecological balance, enhancing environmental resilience and mitigating the impact of climate change. Officials believe the campaign will significantly contribute to building a greener, cleaner and climate-resilient Andhra Pradesh.
Forest Department officials have been directed to prepare detailed action plans and ensure effective coordination of the programme at the grassroots level.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pawan Kalyan said every seed ball sown today represented “a promise for the future.” He called upon people to actively participate in transforming Andhra Pradesh into a greener, healthier and more sustainable State for future generations.
