Speeding trailer crushes couple in Mirzapur, kids survive

Varanasi: A couple was killed, while their two children, aged 10 and 12, survived after a speeding trailer rammed into their motorcycle near Mahuli crossing on the Shaktinagar Highway in Mirzapur on Sunday.Police said the children were thrown several metres away by the impact but miraculously escaped, while the couple came under the wheels of the trailer and died on the spot.According to Mirzapur CO (Operations) Shikha Bharti, the family had gone to attend a wedding ceremony in Lalpur Adhwar on Saturday evening, and were returning when the accident took place.Seeing the two children attempting to pull out their parents’ bodies, locals immediately rushed forward to assist them.Police said the trailer driver fled after the accident. The vehicle has been seized, and efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the absconding driver, Bharti added.
