State govt. nominates six persons to Calicut varsity Senate and Syndicate

The United Democratic Front (UDF) government on Saturday (July 4) nominated six persons to the Senate and Syndicate of the University of Calicut (CU), replacing the incumbents installed by the previous dispensation.

According to an order issued by the Higher Education department, the new nominees are A.T. Abdul Jabbar, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Farook College, Kozhikode; Lekshmi R. Chandran, Head of the Department of Zoology, NSS College, Nemmara, Palakkad; Jaison Joseph, Professor, Department of Mathematics, St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri, Kozhikode; M. Ahammed Kabeer of Malappuram (student representative); A.K. Shahina Mol, Associate Professor, Department of English, Unity Women’s College, Manjeri, Malappuram; and T.M. Vasudevan, Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Calicut main campus, Tenhipalam.

The UDF is expected to get a dominance in the Syndicate with this. The ruling front already has four elected members. Seven other members are affiliated with the Left and one is aligned with the BJP.
