Surat: At a time when the country is facing a short supply of petroleum products due to the fierce war in the Middle East ongoing from the last 14 days, the powerlooom weavers in the country’s largest man made fibre (MMF) hub have made serious allegations against the yarn spinners for harassing airjet weaving manufacturers by putting the orders given before March 10 on hold.
According to the information received, the manufacturers of mother yarn had established the All India Mother Yarn Manufacturers Association a few months ago. Recently, due to the increase in the prices of petroleum products due to the war, some of the actors of this association have arbitrarily issued a circular and unilaterally put all types of orders before March 10, 2026 on hold, citing the war situation. When Airjet Weavers made an inquiry or entered into a written contract, legally accepted the order, then when will the delivery be received? In response to such questions, the leaders of the Mother Yarn Manufacturers Association had urged the weavers to do whatever they could to prevent delivery.
Due to the war, the prices of petroleum products have increased, the basic raw material of yarn is also made from petroleum products, in such a situation, the prices of all types of yarn have increased overnight and yarn manufacturers and suppliers have stopped selling yarn. It is understandable that the manufacturers of mother yarn, although they had given them orders in advance, and they had also accepted the orders at the old price, have started cashing in by keeping the delivery of the orders on hold as the prices increased overnight.
Airjet weaving manufacturers have raised serious complaints and to convey this serious matter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by next Monday, Airjet weavers say that the manufacturers had planned in advance and placed orders for mother yarn, the manufacturers had registered the orders at the prices that were at that time, now when When the prices have increased, their loyalty has deteriorated and instead of delivering the orders, they have now put the orders on hold and have left hundreds of weavers stranded. Some mother yarn manufacturers are delivering to people who want to buy goods in cash at high prices, but those who have written advance orders have illegally stopped yarn orders worth crores of rupees. Weavers say that they are not even saying when they will deliver the orders before March 10 and on the other hand, they are showing their readiness to deliver the goods at high market prices, which indicates that they are giving up on delivering the orders they accepted at low prices.
If the goods are not delivered as per the order, each manufacturer will lose Rs 15 to 25 lakhs
Mother yarn manufacturers have given up on delivering the orders before March 10 to airjet weavers and knitters after the prices of mother yarn increased by 45 percent.
Airjet weavers, knitters etc. had placed advance orders with the manufacturers for the mother yarn as per their requirement at the old price, but now due to the increase in price, the mother yarn manufacturers have lost their morale and are not supplying the quantity of mother yarn. The affected weavers and knitters say that if the mother yarn manufacturers do not supply the goods, they will have to buy the yarn from the market at the increased price and due to this, each manufacturer is facing a huge loss of Rs. 15 lakh to Rs. 25 lakh.
When the prices fell during the implementation of BIS, the goods were delivered at a higher price. Exposing the double standards of the weaving manufacturers, Arjet said that now the prices of mother yarn have increased, so the manufacturers of mother yarn are struggling to deliver the orders booked at a lower price. In the opposite situation, when the BIS was implemented earlier, the prices of mother yarn had plummeted and even then, without giving the benefit of the price reduction to the weavers, the yarn was supplied at the price at which the advance orders were written.
