On the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai on Monday (September 15, 2025), Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is to launch ‘Anbukkarangal’ initiative to financially support the education of children who have lost their parents, till they complete 18 years of age. Through the initiative, each of these children would receive a monthly aid of ₹2,000 till they complete their school education.
The initiative is part of the ‘Thayumanavar’ scheme of the Tamil Nadu government which aims to identify and aid the livelihood of those in poverty. The ‘Anbukkarangal’ initiative would benefit children, who have lost either both parents or one parent and unable to support their education, an official release said. The intent is to prevent the dropping out of school.
The initiative is scheduled to be launched by Mr. Stalin during a function at Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai on September 15. ‘Anbukkarangal’ programme also aims on these children’s completion of school education, at providing support for higher education, imparting appropriate skills, among others. The Chief Minister is also scheduled to distribute laptops to students at this event.
Tributes to Anna
Mr. Stalin is scheduled to pay floral tributes to late DMK leader and former Chief Minister Annadurai to his statue at Anna Salai in Chennai, on Monday. Tamil Nadu Ministers and MLAs are also expected to pay tributes along with the Chief Minister during the event scheduled to commence at 10 a.m.
