The entry of actor-turned-politician Vijay has added a new dimension to the contest in Tamil Nadu, where the elections have traditionally seen a direct fight between DMK and AIADMK

Voting for the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections concluded on Thursday with a record turnout of 85.15%, eclipsing the previous record of 78.29% set during the 2011 assembly elections. Historically, such strong turnouts have resulted in decisive mandates and, at times, regime change. In 2011, a high voter turnout helped the AIADMK sweep to power, and again in 2021, when the DMK returned with a comfortable majority.
The stakes, meanwhile, are sharply defined. While Chief Minister MK Stalin and his ruling DMK are hopeful of a second consecutive mandate and retain their dominance following the demise of J Jayalalithaa, the AIADMK-BJP combine views this election as an opportunity to regain lost ground and emerge as a credible alternative.
The BJP, in particular, is looking to expand its footprint in a state where it has traditionally struggled, while the AIADMK is attempting to reclaim its position as the principal Dravidian challenger.
Adding a new dimension to the Tamil Nadu contest is actor Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), whose electoral debut could disrupt established vote banks, especially among youth and urban voters. While it remains unclear whether Vijay can convert popularity into seats, even a modest vote share could alter margins in closely contested constituencies.
It is against this fluid backdrop that even informal prediction trends are being closely tracked, although their reliability remains open to question.
What Happened In 2021
In the 2021 Assembly elections, the DMK-led alliance returned to power with a comfortable majority. The DMK itself won 133 seats, while its allies took the alliance tally to 159 seats. The party secured a vote share of around 37%, with the broader alliance crossing the 45% mark.
The AIADMK, contesting in alliance with the BJP, won 66 seats with a vote share of roughly 33%, while the BJP secured 4 seats with a vote share of around 2.6%.
What Opinion Polls Suggest
Early opinion polls for 2026 have largely indicated a DMK advantage, though with a narrower margin than in 2021. Surveys suggest the ruling party continues to benefit from welfare delivery and incumbency but also point to growing consolidation of anti-DMK votes behind the AIADMK-BJP alliance.
At the same time, analysts note that the emergence of new players like TVK and shifting alliance dynamics could make the contest far more fragmented and unpredictable than previous elections.
Phalodi Satta Bazar Prediction For Tamil Nadu
The Phalodi Satta Bazar, an informal betting network known for election forecasts, predicts the DMK to retain power in Tamil Nadu in the 2026 elections.
According to its latest estimates, released after polling concluded, the DMK is projected to win around 141–144 seats in the 234-member Assembly, comfortably above the majority mark of 118. The AIADMK-led NDA, on the other hand, is expected to trail and is projected to struggle to dislodge the incumbent government.
The projections, while reinforcing DMK’s status as the frontrunner, also point to the likelihood of a contest that could be closer than in 2021. The potential impact of Vijay’s entry, the extent of Opposition unity, and voter response to welfare measures will be critical factors shaping the final outcome which will be revealed only on May 4 when the Election Commission of India declares the final results.
Satta Bazar Predictions: Health Warning
The Phalodi Satta Bazar is not an official polling agency and operates as an informal, often illegal betting network. Its estimates are based on betting trends and perceptions rather than scientific sampling and should be treated with caution.
While such estimates often draw attention during election cycles, they have a mixed track record and are not based on scientific polling methods.
