A 30-year-old woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Telangana, with her family alleging that she was murdered by her husband for insurance money after years of domestic abuse.
The deceased, identified as Guguloth Meenakshi, had been married for about 12 years after falling in love and had two sons.
However, relatives alleged that the marriage had turned abusive over the years, with Shivaji allegedly subjecting Meenakshi to repeated physical and mental harassment.
According to police, multiple injury marks were found on Meenakshi’s body, raising suspicion over the circumstances surrounding her death, with investigators examining whether it was suicide or a staged crime scene.
In their complaint to police, family members accused Shivaji of repeatedly torturing Meenakshi physically and mentally.
Meenakshi’s family alleged that Shivaji was under severe financial stress due to mounting debts and a significant housing loan, and had been eyeing the insurance amount in Meenakshi’s name. They suspect her death was not suicide but a planned murder.
Hours after the incident, a video clip allegedly showing Shivaji assaulting Meenakshi surfaced on social media, intensifying public outrage.
Police sources said the video had reportedly been recorded earlier by one of Meenakshi’s relatives but was not made public at the time after family elders intervened and brokered a compromise.
After this incident, Shivaji had reportedly promised family members that he would stop assaulting her, however, the harassment continued.
Speaking to reporters, Tirumalayapalem Police Station Inspector V Srinivas confirmed that Shivaji had been brought in for questioning.
“He definitely assaulted her. We are waiting for the post-mortem report. Based on the findings, we will alter the FIR accordingly if it turns out to be a case of murder instead of suicide,” the inspector said.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
