An email message addressed to the Principal District and Sessions Judge of Yadgir claiming that a bomb will blast in the court between 1.20 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Thursday created tension on court premises. However, after a thorough search, it turned out to be a hoax message.
The mail was sent at 2.22 a.m. on Thursday. And, the court staff, who opened it after 11 a.m., informed the police.
Immediately after receiving information from court officers, sniffer dogs, a team of bomb disposal staff and senior police officers rushed to the District Court Complex located on Sedam bypass in Yadgir city and launched a search operation.
The team searched each court hall, including the court hall of the Principal District and Sessions Judge, the Bar Association building and other rooms and surrounding areas within the premises.
“The police and sniffer dog team searched the entire court complex after which it was found that the email was a hoax message,” Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar told The Hindu over phone.
Advocates and clients present on the premises were in shock for a while but heaved a sigh of relief after being told that the mail message has turned out to be a hoax.
“Following this, court proceedings were suspended between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. as judges and other staff were asked to come out of the complex. Later, the proceedings were allowed to continue,” President of the Bar Association R.S. Patil said.
A case has been registered at the Yadgir Town Police Station.
“We will conduct a thorough investigation in the matter,” Mr. Shankar said.
