The birth anniversary of celebrated Malayalam writer O.V. Vijayan was observed at Thasrak, near Palakkad, on Thursday (July 2, 2026).
The OV Vijayan Memorial Committee led the celebrations titled ‘Khazak, a pictorial poem.’
Inaugurating the event, District Collector Sudheer K. said artists and writers played a key role in shaping values and contributing to society’s progress.
O.V. Vijayan Memorial Committee chairman T.K. Narayanadas presided over the function.
Philosophical engagement
Delivering the memorial lecture, writer Susmesh Chandran said O.V. Vijayan’s works called for readings that go beyond cultural and aesthetic appreciation to a deeper philosophical engagement. He said Vijayan explored Indian philosophy through both intellectual and philosophical inquiry.
Critic and memorial committee vice-chairman Asha Menon delivered the remembrance lecture.
Writers P.A. Vasudevan, C.P. Chithrabhanu, T.K. Shankaranarayanan, Sreekrishnapuram Krishnankutty, Raghunathan Parali, P. Murali, Jyothibai Pariyadath, Suresh Kodoor, Mohandas Sreekrishnapuram, Rajesh Menon and P.V. Sukumaran spoke.
The programme began with floral tributes at the statue of O.V. Vijayan. P.R. Jayasheelan welcomed the gathering. Manoj Veettikkad proposed a vote of thanks.
