Three tonnes of e-waste were collected from the civil station at Kakkanad, housing the offices of the District Collector and various departments, as part of a cleanliness drive. The collected items include defunct computers, printers, televisions, mobile phones and chargers.
The drive was conducted by the Thrikkakara municipality and the Suchitwa Mission as part of an ongoing State-wide campaign. The garbage was handed over to the Clean Kerala Company under the Local Self-Government department, an official release said. The company will process and recycle the waste materials. District Collector G. Priyanka flagged off the transportation of the e-waste. Harithakarma Sena members and Clean Kerala Company officials carried out the collection drive. The defunct electronic items were collected based on recommendations from department heads concerned.
An awareness session on the need for proper processing of e-waste as part of a Statewide collection drive was also held for the employees at the Civil Station.
Deputy Collectors K. Manoj and V. E. Abbas, Suchitwa Mission district coordinator Seethal G. Mohan and Nava Kerala Mission district coordinator S. Renjini led the drive.
