The racket was came to light during a health awareness camp at the migrant colony in Varthur when few victims approached him with their woes, following a complaint was filed.

In a shocking incident, villagers in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district tied two men and a woman to an electric pole and thrashed them with sticks over suspicions of an affair.

The matter escalated when the married woman, from the Kashipur village, went to the Jashipur weekly market with two men on a bike and was spotted by her family members upon her return, according to NDTV.

This caused an argument, and the family members of the woman alleged she was in a relationship with one of the two men. The villagers then tied the three of them to an electric pole and beat them with sticks, while bystanders recorded the scene.

The woman has two children, as per reports. Her uncle and other members of her family saw the woman with the youth, who was like a brother to her, and assumed that she was having an illicit relationship with him.

Police rushed to the spot upon receiving information and rescued the woman and two youths. They were taken to the Jashipur medical hospital for treatment.

The woman’s husband and the youth were detained for interrogation and a case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered.

A disturbing incident had surfaced earlier from Odisha’s Rayagada, where a couple was allegedly tied to a wooden yoke like oxen and forced to plough a field by an agitated mob as a punishment for marrying against local societal norms.

As per the media reports, the couple, hailing from Kanjamajhira village in Rayagada district, had fallen in love recently and got married. Some villagers, however, were against their decision because the man is the son of the woman’s paternal aunt. Such a marriage is considered taboo as per local customs.
