Kanpur.........9Times News NetworkKanpur: Trader groups staged a dharna on Wednesday to protest against the alleged assault on trader Brijkishor Gupta and his son at the Government medical college in Orai, Jalaun, as several markets in the city remained closed on the call of various trade organisations and women’s organisations.Shops in the city’s major markets remained closed from Wednesday morning. A large number of traders gathered at the Ghantaghar Crossing and raised slogans against the medical college administration and doctors.The protesters alleged that Brijkishor Gupta and his son were manhandled and assaulted at the medical college, but no concrete action was taken on their complaint. On the written complaint of the doctors, Orai Kotwali police registered a case against the trader and his son, which triggered resentment among traders.The protesting traders alleged that the police were taking one-sided action and that the complaint of the aggrieved party was not being taken seriously. They warned that if an impartial investigation was not conducted and action was not taken against the guilty doctors, the agitation would be intensified.In view of the situation, a heavy police force was deployed at Ghanta Ghar Crossing and surrounding areas. City magistrate Sunil Kumar Singh and CO Rajeev Sharma arrived at the spot with police force and attempted to pacify the demonstrators.
Later, superintendent of police Vinay Kumar Singh reached the dharna site and held talks with the traders. He assured them of an impartial investigation and strict action against the guilty. The SP said that the law is equal for everyone and no guilty person will be spared.Following the assurance from the police administration, traders called off the dharna. However, traders said that if impartial action was not taken, agitation would be launched again in the future.
