Trichy prison inmate held under Pocso Act dies

Trichy: A man held in Trichy central prison under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act on charges of sexually assaulting a minor died at Trichy MGMGH on Monday. Authorities said he suffered from diabetes and breathing difficulties.The deceased was identified as L Veeramani, 54, from Srirangam. He was arrested for sexually assaulting a minor girl earlier this year. He was lodged in Trichy central prison in judicial custody on March 27. In the past few weeks, he reportedly developed breathing difficulties. Veeramani was admitted to the Trichy GH on June 11. However, he died on Monday night, police said.Based on a complaint lodged by prison officer Venkada Subramani, police registered a case and are investigating.
