US President Donald Trump on Tuesday met G7 leaders in France’s Évian-les-Bains at the summit’s first round of talks. However, in past few months, he has shared a tense relations with most of his Group of 7 counterparts.

In past several months, Trump has insulted most of G7 leaders, brought forth old grudges and even ignited feud with leaders he previously respected. Most recently, he had rebuked the leaders over their unwillingness to join the US-Israel war on Iran.

Emmanuel Macron

US President Donald Trump has shared a long time relation with French President Emmanuel Macron. According to CNN, their relationship seems to be the most complicated: one day, a nod of respect; the next, a jab about Macron’s marriage.

On January 20, Trump said in a post on Truth Social on January 20 this year, saying, “Nobody wants him because he will be out of office very soon…I’ll put a 200% tariff on his wines and champagnes, and he’ll join, but he doesn’t have to join".

Most recently, he said: “Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a “cease fire" between Israel and Iran. Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong."

Mark Carney

With regard to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, Trump’s relation seemed to have had improved last year. However, trade disputes and Carney’s speech at Davos earlier this year led to Trump change his stance. The President even went on to call the Canadian PM as “Governor Carney," probably a threat to make Canada US’s 51st state.

Keir Starmer

According to CNN, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has spent much time attempting to cultivate Trump and it seemed to work for much of last year. However, Starmer initially refused to support the US war with Iran resulting in Trump dismissing him as “no Winston Churchill".

Friedrich Merz

Like Starmer, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also shared a good relation with the US President. However, it soured when he questioned the Iran war and even said that the US was being “humiliated by the Iranian leadership."

Giorgia Meloni

Another European leader who once was aligned with Trump but later faced his frustrations is – Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. According to CNN, her refusal to participate in war with Iran and later calling Trump’s attacks on Pope Leo XIV “unacceptable," led to him lashing out at her.

“I’m shocked at her. I thought she had courage, but I was wrong," the US president said in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. “Giorgia Meloni doesn’t want to help us in the war. I’m shocked. Do people like the fact that your president isn’t doing anything to get the oil [in Iran]? Does she like it? I can’t imagine."

Sanae Takaichi

According to CNN, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has made it her mission to develop a close personal relationship with Trump. However Trump had criticized her over refusal to participate in the war with Iran.

In a previous meeting this year, the US President had even joked about Pearl Harbor during an Oval Office meeting.
