US President Donald Trump on Monday repeated his claim that he had ended the India-Pakistan conflict last year, saying he “saved 30 to 50 million lives", as the US remains engaged in a prolonged conflict with Iran in West Asia.

India launched Operation Sindoor against Pakistan on May 7, 2025, in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in April that year. India struck terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, eliminating several terrorists. Both sides reached an understanding to cease hostilities on May 10, for which Trump has repeatedly taken credit for.

Speaking at a press conference at the White House, Trump said he had ended multiple global conflicts, including the brief India-Pakistan escalation in May 2025. “I ended eight wars, including India and Pakistan, so much so that the Prime Minister of Pakistan told me that I saved 30 to 50 million lives," Trump said.

He also expressed frustration over not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize for solving so many conflicts, even as he received domestic criticism for the military campaign in Iran, which has spilt over to the Gulf region and disrupted oil markets and international travel.

India has consistently denied Trump’s claim that he played a role in ending the conflict, while Pakistan not only gave credit to Trump, but also nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

During the briefing, Trump also criticised US allies for not supporting Washington’s stance in the ongoing Iran conflict, particularly over efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He named several countries, including South Korea, Australia and Japan, accusing them of not assisting US operations despite American military presence in the region.

Trump also issued a fresh warning to Iran, saying the US had the capability to target key infrastructure if a deal was not reached by his stated deadline. “We have a plan, because of the power of our military, where every bridge in Iran will be decimated by 12 o’clock tomorrow night," he said, adding that power plants could be destroyed.
