“I hear yes," Trump told AFP in a telephone call when asked if China was involved in persuading Tehran to agree to a truce.

Speaking to the New York Times, three Iranian officials said that a last-minute intervention by China helped Iran accept Pakistan’s two-week ceasefire proposal, showing that Pakistan was not the only country involved in the negotiations.

Ceasefire Reached Before Deadline

The United States and Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire on Tuesday, just over an hour before Trump’s deadline for potential large-scale military escalation was set to expire.

The agreement includes Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil transit route. Israel also agreed to the ceasefire, the White House said.

The breakthrough followed diplomatic outreach led by Pakistan, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urging both sides to pause hostilities and begin talks.
