Questions over CCTV footage, evidence handling and call records have sharpened scrutiny of Twisha Sharma's death in Bhopal. With her family alleging foul play and refusing cremation, the mystery has only deepened.
New revelations and twists in the high-profile death case of model and actor Twisha Sharma continue to emerge almost every day. While the post-mortem report concluded that 33-year-old Twisha died by suicide, her family has refused to accept it, alleging foul play. From the beginning, Twisha's family, which hails from Noida, have maintained that their daughter was harassed for dowry and was mentally tortured after her marriage to Bhopal-based lawyer Samarth Singh, who remains absconding.
However, Twisha's in-laws have rejected the charges, with her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, a retired judge, claiming that she had a history of psychiatric treatment and substance abuse. However, there was no indication of drug consumption in Twisha's post-mortem report. This has led Twisha's parents to that influence, and connections were being used by her in-laws to weaken the investigation.
It has been over a week since Twisha was found hanging from a gymnastic rope at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12. However, since then, details of CCTV footage, alleged procedural lapses, handling of evidence, and call records have only deepened the mystery surrounding the case.
Twisha's body still lies at the AIIMS Bhopal mortuary, with her family refusing to cremate her until concrete action is taken. Here, we look at the seven major questions that remain unanswered.
TWISHA SHARMA DEATH: UNANSWERED QUESTIONS
1) What happened in the final 60 minutes before her death?
The CCTV footage from Twisha's in-laws' house has raised perhaps the most troubling question. The footage shows Twisha going upstairs towards the terrace around 7.20 pm. Her body was brought downstairs nearly an hour later.
The key question is what exactly happened during those 60 minutes. Who all were present in the house at the time? Why was no immediate help provided?
2) If it was suicide, why was she not taken to the hospital immediately?
Twisha's family has alleged that there was a delay in taking her to the hospital. Her in-laws claimed they administered CPR to her on the staircase landing. However, it was unsuccessful.
Questions have been raised about why immediate medical assistance was not given. Twisha's family suspects there might have been attempts to conceal certain facts.
3) What do the messages sent before Twisha's death indicate?
A few days before her death, Twisha had sent messages to her mother expressing unhappiness with her in-laws. She also spoke about being mentally disturbed. This has raised questions about whether she was under continuous emotional pressure.
4) Were all pieces of evidence from the scene properly secured?
The family has repeatedly alleged tampering with crucial evidence. Questions have also been raised about whether a complete forensic examination was conducted.
Moreover, procedural lapses by the investigating officer have also surfaced. The officer failed to produce the nylon rope that was allegedly used in the hanging before the medical board during the autopsy. Due to this, the doctors were unable to conduct a scientific comparison between the rope and the marks found on Twisha's neck.
5) Why is the postmortem report not giving a clear picture?
In fact, the post-mortem findings themselves have also become a matter of debate. It has not provided clear answers on the marks found on the body and the nature of the injuries. Twisha's family has said the report does not fully clarify what actually happened. Moreover, the family's request for a second autopsy has been turned down by a Bhopal court.
6) Was it really suicide, or is there more to the story?
This remains the biggest question in the case. Did Twisha take her own life, or did circumstances push her towards it? Considering the twists and turns in the case, it won't be surprising if some other factor emerges.
7) Whom did Giribala Singh call after Twisha's death?
Twisha's family has publicly shared around 46 phone numbers and alleged that her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh, made several calls after the incident. The family has questioned who these people were and why the calls were made immediately after Twisha's death.
