Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has cautioned against possible industrial unrest in the State around May 1 (Labour Day) and has instructed district administrations to be on high alert.

The directive comes days after a massive protest by industrial workers in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district.

“Officials were directed to remain extremely alert and ensure effective preventive action before any situation arises. Referring to recent attempts to create industrial unrest in certain areas, he (Mr. Adityanath) stated that although the situation is currently normal, there is a possibility of renewed attempts between April 30 and May 2. Industrial unrest will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and such malicious attempts must be firmly thwarted,” read an official statement.

Mr. Adityanath made the remarks while chairing a high-level review meeting via videoconferencing on Wednesday (April 22, 2026). The meeting focused on key issues, including the home guard recruitment examination, arrangements related to smart metres, availability of petroleum products, and the overall law and order situation in the State.

“During the meeting, he issued detailed instructions to officials regarding preparations, public facilities, and security arrangements for the Home Guard recruitment examination scheduled on April 25, 26, and 27. The Chief Minister noted that, for the first time, the examination is being conducted through the Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, and therefore all officials concerned must exercise heightened vigilance. District Magistrates recently posted in various districts were directed to ensure proper coordination with Divisional Commissioners and senior police officials at the ADG/IG level. The Chief Minister emphasized that no compromise will be tolerated on the integrity and confidentiality of the examination,” added the statement.

“Continuous monitoring of social media was also directed, with immediate action against those spreading rumors. It was informed in the meeting that the examination for 41,424 Home Guard posts will be conducted across 74 districts in two shifts over three days. In view of the intense heat, he directed that all examination centers must ensure adequate availability of clean drinking water, emergency medical facilities, and that candidates are not made to wait unnecessarily in the sun,” the statement read.

The Chief Minister while reviewing the availability of petroleum products, assured that supply and distribution across the State are completely normal and urged the public not to panic. “All District Magistrates were directed to hold regular meetings with representatives of petroleum companies to review supply and distribution. Strict action was also ordered to curb black marketing and hoarding in districts bordering Nepal,” the government said.
