Syed Iqbal Syed Khaja from the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena was elected mayor after he secured a win against BJP candidate Tirumala Mokind Khillare.

While Iqbal secured 39 votes, Khillare received 26 votes, giving the Shiv Sena leader a clear majority.

The development followed a pre-decided power-sharing formula under which Shiv Sena would take the mayor’s post and Congress the deputy mayor’s position. Both parties had formally approved their candidates before the vote, and Shiv Sena also issued a whip to its corporators.

In the deputy mayoral election, Congress candidate Ganesh Deshmukh won by a margin of 10 votes, polling 37 votes against NCP nominee Najma Abdul Rahim, who received 27. Another NCP corporator maintained a neutral stand during the voting.

Parbhani Municipal Corporation strength (65 seats):

Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction): 25

Congress: 12

BJP: 12

NCP: 11

Janasurajya: 3

Yashwant Sena: 1

BJP Targets Uddhav Faction

After the election results, the BJP criticised Uddhav Thackeray, stating that he promised to make a Marathi person the mayor, but he gave the post to a Muslim candidate after winning the election.

“In Parbhani, the agenda of the ‘Aurangzeb fan club’ is being carried out through the Uddhav Thackeray faction. During elections, Uddhav Thackeray repeatedly talks about Marathi identity and promises to make a Marathi person the mayor, but in the only place in Maharashtra where they got power, they gave the mayor’s post to a Muslim candidate. This exposes their Aurangzeb fan club agenda," BJP corporator Navnath Ban said.

In the mayoral contest, Syed Iqbal secured 39 votes against BJP candidate Tirumala Mokind Khillare, who received 26 votes, giving the Shiv Sena leader a clear majority.
