A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district has filed a criminal complaint against her own son after he allegedly raped his cousin, resulting in a pregnancy, police said on Tuesday.
The incident occurred in a village under the jurisdiction of the Bhitauli Police Station. According to police officials, the survivor had been living at her paternal aunt’s home since childhood following the death of her mother.
The teen had been raised by her aunt due to her father's reported history of "bad habits" and the absence of her mother.
The accused allegedly lured the girl into a physical relationship under false pretences. The matter came to light only after she discovered she was pregnant and informed her aunt.
Shocked by the revelation, the accused’s mother -- the survivor’s aunt -- approached the police to seek justice for her niece against her own son.
"Based on the complaint received, a case has been registered against the accused," a police official said. A manhunt is underway for the accused, who is on the run.
