A senior official from Bihar's youth employment department was apprehended accepting a substantial bribe. Paramjay Singh, assistant director, was caught with Rs 5 lakh, accused of demanding Rs 10 lakh from training institutes. Investigations at his residence uncovered an additional Rs 15 lakh in cash and investment documents. Singh, however, alleges a conspiracy and widespread corruption within the department.
Patna: The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) on Friday arrested Paramjay Singh, assistant director of the youth employment and skill development department, for accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.
Singh was caught red-handed in the parking lot of the Niyojan Bhavan building in Patna.According to the complaint filed by deputy director Omprakash, Singh demanded a bribe of Rs10 lakh from 26 industrial training institutes for releasing funds amounting to Rs1.70 crore.After Singh’s arrest, a search team was formed under the leadership of vigilance DSP Vinod Kumar Pandey to conduct a search at his residence in Patna.
The search resulted in the recovery of approximately Rs15 lakh in cash and several investment documents.The investigation revealed that Singh allegedly demanded a bribe from the institutes for releasing funds for office expenses and machine equipment. The VIB registered a case against Singh and will produce him before the special vigilance court in Patna for further legal action.Meanwhile, after the arrest, Singh claimed that large-scale corruption is going on in Niyojan Bhavan.
He alleged that the officials inflated the tender of Rs80 crore to Rs500 crore.“When I joined here in June 2025, the office employees felt that I was the one exposing them. Therefore, they, under a conspiracy, recorded my every statement, and Omprakash framed me today. I had also lodged complaints with the CMO, PMO and VIB against their corruption. The case of altering tender is the biggest corruption in Niyojan Bhavan till date,” he alleged.
