A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his mother's live-in partner by repeatedly stabbing him in Gujarat's Rajkot district. The incident took place on Tuesday, July 7, with multiple onlookers present.
The killing was captured on a nearby CCTV camera. The victim has been identified as 35-year-old Kamlesh Vaghela. The accused, 20-year-old Jayant Vaghela, is the son of his live-in partner, Neeta.
He was arrested within hours of a formal complaint being lodged by Kamlesh's younger brother, Kapil Vaghela (25).
The video apparently shows the accused chasing the victim through an alley before getting hold of him and stabbing him multiple times with a sharp object.
According to the police, Kamlesh and Neeta had been in a live-in relationship for the past 12 years.
In his complaint, Kapil said that Jayant held a grudge against his brother over the fact that the live-in relationship began while his father was still alive. He alleged that this was the motivation behind the crime.
The police said that Kamlesh arranged the marriage of Neeta's daughter during their relationship. The probe into the killing has revealed that he used to work as a labourer, an official said.
Kamlesh suffered more than five stab wounds on different parts of his body in the fatal attack, the official added. The CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral o social media.
In the clip, Kamlesh is supposedly heard pleading with bystanders to save his life. He is also heard requesting Jayant to spare him, saying, "I have not done anything to anyone."
In response, Jayant can purportedly be heard saying, "Didn't I warn you?" The CCTV footage also shows another person accompanying him during the incident. Efforts are underway to ascertain the identity of that person.
