Vijayawada official, who ‘flagged’ irregularities in DWCRA, goes missing after sending disturbing text

Vijayawada: An assistant project manager, who was suspended over 'irregularities’ in Development of Women and Children in Rural Areas (DWCRA) groups in Vijayawada rural mandal, has gone missing after sending a message stating that he was ending his life due to depression. The incident has sparked concern among officials and his family members, prompting police to search for Gandham Chandrasekhar. Chandrasekhar, a resident of Sher Mohammed Pet village, reportedly sent text messages stating that he was under severe mental stress. Soon after sending the message, he switched off his phone and disappeared. Before going missing, he is said to have submitted a letter to the project director alleging irregularities in the formation of fake DWCRA groups in the Gollapudi cluster.

He alleged that loans were being sanctioned through Mahila Samman Savings Certificate (MSCC), SBI Gollapudi branch, and other banks in the names of fake groups and that funds were being collected illegally. In the letter, Chandrasekhar further stated that he had no role in the alleged irregularities, yet was suspended from service. He expressed disappointment that he had not been given a new posting for the past eight months despite meeting several officials and public representatives seeking justice.Police said efforts are underway to trace Chandrasekhar and investigate the circumstances leading to his disappearance.
