As many as 10,000 waqf institutions have been verified at the checker level and around 4,000 have been approved, as a part of the registering exercise on UMEED portal, Telangana State Waqf Board Chairman Syed Azmatullah Husseini said.
In the same vein, more than 33,500 waqf institutions that are gazette-notified were registered till the last day, December 6.
Mr. Husseini said that the exercise was marred by delays and technical issues with the portal. Despite this, the staff of the TGWB, and volunteers worked tirelessly, and round-the-clock, so as to meet the deadline. He also appreciated the role of Muslim religious organisations, mutawallis, and managing committees of waqf institutions for extending their cooperation.
He pointed out that, given the delays and portal glitches, the TGWB has decided to file a suit in the Waqf Tribunal seeking an extension. The application has been moved under the relevant sections of the new Waqf Law. The board is hopeful that an extension will allow them to complete checking, and then approving registrations that are pending.
