Cyberabad Traffic Police booked 426 motorists during special weekend drunk driving checks conducted on December 5 and 6. The figures include two-wheeler riders forming the bulk of the cases at 323, followed by 85 four-wheeler drivers, 17 three-wheeler drivers and one heavy vehicle driver.
All offenders will be produced before court. Police reiterated that driving in an intoxicated condition is a serious offence and warned that in cases where a fatal accident occurs, those behind the wheel will face charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which carries a maximum sentence of ten years with a fine.
Between December 1 and December 6, courts disposed of 410 drunk driving cases. Forty one offenders received fines along with jail terms, twenty one were given fines with social service, and 348 were fined.
