The United States has deployed Ukrainian anti-drone technology at a key air base in Saudi Arabia to counter repeated Iranian attacks, Reuters reported, citing multiple sources familiar with the matter. Follow Live Updates Here

According to the report, the system, known as Sky Map, is now being used at Prince Sultan Air Base to detect incoming drones and coordinate interceptions. Ukrainian specialists have also been sent to train US personnel on the platform, which has been widely used in Ukraine’s war against Russia, including against Iranian-made Shahed drones.

Response To Repeated Attacks

The move follows a series of drone and missile strikes on the base that reportedly damaged infrastructure and killed at least one US service member. The base, located about 400 miles from Iran, has faced sustained attacks since the conflict escalated.

Sources told Reuters that the deployment highlights how Ukraine’s battlefield-tested drone defence capabilities are now being leveraged by the US in West Asia.

Gaps In US Air Defence Exposed

Analysts cited in the report said the adoption of Ukrainian systems points to gaps in US air and missile defence capabilities, particularly against low-cost, mass-produced drones.

The Pentagon has been increasing investments in counter-drone measures, with recent funding aimed at boosting sensors, interceptors and surveillance systems. However, officials acknowledged that no single system can fully counter evolving drone threats.

Shift After Earlier Rejection

The development comes weeks after President Donald Trump publicly said the US did not require Ukraine’s help in countering Iranian drones. However, Reuters reported that Ukrainian experts are now actively supporting operations in the region.

Ukrainian personnel have reportedly been deployed across several Middle East countries, including Saudi Arabia, to assist in defending against aerial threats.
