A video of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio inside China’s Great Hall of the People has gone viral, after he was seen briefly looking upward and appearing fascinated by the ornate ceiling during US President Donald Trump’s summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.

The clip, which quickly spread across social media platforms, showed Marco Rubio momentarily taking in the architecture during the formal diplomatic setting- a moment that was widely interpreted online. Some users mocked the moment, turning it into a viral punchline. One post read, “This idiot Marco Rubio is in China, fascinated by the ceiling. He should have stayed on the plane" while another user wrote, “He has seen this type of ceiling for the first time. Poor man."

He also emphasised that the United States was not seeking Chinese assistance on Iran, despite Beijing’s regional influence.
