 Throwback to their memorable 2018 meeting during ‘The Odyssey’ director's India visit

Renowned filmmaker Christopher Nolan visited India for the premiere of his upcoming film ‘The Odyssey’. However, this is not the first time the ‘Oppenheimer’ director has visited the country. Throwback to the time back in 2018 when Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan met the Oscar-winning filmmaker.

When Christopher Nolan met Kamal Haasan

In 2018, Nolan came to India as part of a four-day tour for the 'Reframing The Future of Film' initiative, which focused on film preservation and restoration. Nolan was accompanied by his wife and producer Emma Thomas. Their four children, Magnus, Flora, Rory and Oliver, also travelled with them during the visit.

Tamil film veteran Kamal Haasan met Christopher Nolan during a dinner gathering in Mumbai in 2018. During their interaction they chatted about films and shared their love of filmmaking.

Kamal took to his X handle to further reveal he talked about his 2017 film ‘Dunkirk’ and was surprised to learn that Nolan had watched his 2015 crime thriller ‘Paapanaasam’. Sharing a picture with Nolan, Kamal Haasan, wrote, “Met Mr. Christopher Nolan. Apologized for seeing Dunkirk in the digital format and, in return, am sending Hey Ram in digital format for him to see. Was surprised to know he had seen Paapanaasam.”

Christopher Nolan had visited India as he was invited by filmmaker and archivist Shivendra Singh Dungarpur, the founder of the Film Heritage Foundation.

Why is Christopher Nolan in India?

Now, after eight years, Christopher Nolan is once again visiting India for the premiere of ‘The Odyssey’. The special event is being held in Mumbai over two days. He will be joined by producer Emma Thomas, along with actors Matt Damon and Tom Holland, who play key roles in the film.

About ‘The Odyssey’

Speaking about Nolan’s upcoming film, it tells the story of the Greek King Odysseus played by Matt Damon and his grueling journey of returning home after the Trojan War. He faces multiple obstacles, monsters during his journey.
