IndiGo has appointed Captain Rohit Rikhye as its new Head of Operations Control Centre (OCC), replacing Jason Herter. The move marks the first senior management reshuffle at the airline since the major operational disruptions in December last year.

In January, the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) took action against the airline, imposing penalties totalling Rs 22 crore and directing the dismissal of a senior vice-president over the disruptions.

In an internal communication on Friday, the airline said Rohit Rikhye has been appointed as the Head of OCC with immediate effect. He will report to Chief Operating Officer Isidre Porqueras.

According to the communication, Rikhye will head the OCC, which handles real-time coordination and oversight of flight operations, including flight planning, tracking and dispatch, in line with regulatory requirements such as air traffic control rules and safety guidelines.

He will also oversee crew scheduling and rostering. “I am sure his current and past experience will help him in managing his new role," the communication added.

On January 22, Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma, appearing for the civil aviation ministry and the DGCA, told authorities that several steps had been taken after the crisis.

He said a senior vice-president was directed to be dismissed and a penalty of Rs 22 crore was imposed.
