A disturbing case of alleged forced marriage has surfaced from Bihar’s Samastipur district, where a student preparing for Home Guard recruitment exam claims he was kidnapped, drugged and coerced into marrying against his will. A video purportedly showing the incident has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread concern and prompting a police investigation.
The incident reportedly took place in Chakraj Ali village under the Patori police station area. The victim, identified as Nitish Kumar of Jodi Pokhar, had stepped out of his home for work when, according to his family, he was lured away by two acquaintances, Kundan Rajvanshi and Rahul. His relatives allege that the duo abducted him and mixed intoxicants into a soft drink, rendering him unconscious.
The video, that went viral, shows Nitish seated at the wedding altar appearing disoriented and unable to comprehend what was happening around him. During the garland exchange ceremony, he is seen struggling to even lift his hands, while another young man is seen guiding his arm to complete the ritual. Nitish later claimed that he regained consciousness only to find himself in the middle of a wedding ceremony. He further alleged that he was kept confined and repeatedly given drugs so that he could not resist.
However, conflicting claims have emerged from the two families involved. Nitish’s grandfather, Krishnadev Rai, stated that marriage discussions between the two had taken place earlier but were rejected by the man’s family as they did not approve of the girl. He alleged that, out of resentment, Nitish’s friends conspired to trap him and forcibly solemnise the marriage.
However, the girl’s brother, Jai Kumar, has denied all allegations of abduction and coercion. He claimed the marriage was conducted with mutual consent and with the knowledge of Nitish’s family. According to him, Nitish’s mother had seen the girl over a video call, and they had been talking to each other for last six months.
The matter reached the police after Nitish’s mother lodged a written complaint at the Patori police station. Acting on the complaint, police recovered Nitish and began an enquiry into the circumstances surrounding the marriage.
Officials said that video evidence is being closely examined to determine whether Nitish was drugged and who might have been involved in the alleged kidnapping.
