A woman and a bike taxi rider were apprehended by the Jubilee Hills police for allegedly snatching a gold chain from a pedestrian during the morning hours of February 17. Police recovered a gold chain weighing about 10 grams, a motorcycle used in the offence and two mobile phones.
The accused were identified as Chesetti Revathi, 33, housewife, a resident of Sanath Nagar, and native of Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, and Giddala Narendra alias Nani, 23, a bike-taxi rider, a resident of Sanath Nagar, and native of Guntur in Andhra Pradesh. Both Revathi and Narendra are well-acquainted with each other.
According to police, the incident occurred at about 9.30 a.m. when the complainant, Kadapala Manasa, was walking from her hostel to her office on road number 39. On reaching Road No. 44, the accused allegedly approached her on a scooter, bearing registration number AP 39 BF 9269, with Narendra riding, and Revathi as pillion.
Police said Revathi noticed the gold chain worn by the victim and signalled to Narendra. The duo fled the scene immediately after she snatched the chain.
During investigation, the accused were traced and taken into custody. A mobile phone linked to the case, the scooter used in the offence and two other mobile phones were seized.
