Woman's body found stuffed inside blue drum on roadside in Punjab's Patiala

Punjab was left shocked on Wednesday after the body of a young woman was discovered stuffed inside a blue plastic drum in Patiala’s Urban Estate area, triggering a major police investigation into what officers suspect could be a murder case.

The body was found near a DCW pole in the locality after police received an early morning alert about a drum containing human remains. Officers from Urban Estate police station rushed to the spot and sealed the area as panic spread among residents.

The deceased is believed to be between 15 and 20 years old. Her identity has not yet been established.

Police officer Gurvinder Singh said the force received information at dawn about a body lying inside a drum near the roadside location.

“When the police team reached the spot, a young woman’s body was found inside a blue-coloured drum,” he said.

TATTOOS MAY HELP IDENTIFY VICTIM

Investigators said the woman had a tattoo with the name “Neha” on one hand, while another tattoo featuring a heart symbol was found on her other arm. Police believe these markings could play a crucial role in identifying her.

A forensic team was also called to the scene to collect evidence from the area and examine the drum and surrounding spot for clues.

BODY KEPT IN MORTUARY

The body has been shifted to the mortuary of Government Rajindra Hospital, where it has been kept for identification and post-mortem examination.

Police said the exact cause of death and the circumstances in which the woman died would become clear only after the investigation progresses and forensic findings are examined.

Officers are now scanning missing persons reports and nearby CCTV footage to trace the victim’s identity and determine who abandoned the drum at the location.
