The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Friday accused the government of misleading the House on pending fee reimbursement dues, and alleged a sharp decline in law and order across the State.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Botcha Satyanarayana alleged that Ministers were losing patience when questioned about the government’s failures and resorting to false statements inside the House.

Speaking at the Legislative Assembly media point, Mr. Satyanarayana said despite completing two years in office, the ruling dispensation continued to blame the previous regime rather than detailing its own achievements.

Taking exception to remarks made by HRD Minister Nara Lokesh on fee reimbursement arrears, Mr. Satyanarayana said the claim that thousands of crores had been left unpaid by the previous government was untrue.

Barring about ₹700 crore relating to the last quarter of the previous government’s term, when the election code was in force, payments had been made regularly, he asserted. Even those payments were delayed following complaints lodged with the Election Commission, he added.

Alleging that “baseless figures” were being repeated, Mr. Satyanarayana said such statements damaged the education sector’s credibility. He accused the government of weakening public institutions while encouraging private players.

Law and order

On law and order, the YSRCP leader referred to incidents at the residences of former Ministers Ambati Rambabu and Jogi Ramesh, claiming that the situation deteriorated. He questioned why the victims were arrested and the accused granted station bail in these cases. “Is this justice?” he asked.

Mr. Satyanarayana also dismissed reports targeting him in the alleged land issues and described them as a motivated campaign aimed at silencing his criticism on land allotment to GITAM University in Visakhapatnam.
