Their story began in Patna, where IAS Tushar Singla and IPS Navjot Simi fell in love. It culminated in a wedding far from home, in Howrah, sealing a rare administrative romance

Relationships in which the wife is older or taller than the husband often attract public attention and social commentary. While such marriages are visible in Bollywood, similar examples remain uncommon within the administrative services, making these instances particularly noteworthy.

Many officers find love after clearing the UPSC examination and later settle into marriage. However, the love story of the IAS and IPS officers we are about to share stands apart.

In this case, an IAS officer fell in love with an IPS officer who is two and a half years older than him. What began as a friendship gradually deepened into a relationship. IAS officer Tushar Singla and IPS officer Navjyot Simi grew close while spending time together in Patna, Bihar. Though their romance blossomed there, they eventually tied the knot in Howrah, West Bengal.

On February 14, 2020, Valentine’s Day, IPS officer Navjyot Simi married IAS officer Tushar Singla of the 2015 batch, Bengal cadre. Their relationship began with a simple date at a restaurant in Patna. What makes their story unique is that Navjyot is around two years and five months older than her husband. The two had first met during their UPSC preparation days at coaching centres.

Both Tushar Singla and Navjyot Simi hail from Punjab and chose the demanding path of civil services after completing their initial education. Tushar graduated in Electrical Engineering from IIT Delhi and later pursued a postgraduate degree in Public Administration from Jawaharlal Nehru University. He appeared for the UPSC Civil Services Examination for the first time in 2013, clearing the Preliminary and Main examinations. In his second attempt in 2014, he secured an All India Rank of 86 and was selected for the IAS.

Navjyot Simi is from Gurdaspur district in Punjab. She completed her BDS degree from Baba Jaswant Singh Dental College in Ludhiana. In 2017, she cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination with an All India Rank of 735, becoming an IPS officer. After training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad, she served as ACP in Patna under the Bihar cadre and went on to work in several other districts.
