In a moment of leadership by example, Indian Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi performed push-ups with young officers at the passing out parade of the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun – a moment that has since gone viral on social media.

General Upendra Dwivedi, who reviewed the autumn graduation event of the premier military training academy, was spotted with newly commissioned officers in performing multiple sets of push-ups, showcasing his physical fitness and unparalleled camaraderie.

Many who shared the video called it a “lifelong memory for the cadets" while others commented saying Gen Dwivedi almost matched the speed of the young officers, who are fresh from at least 18 months of rigorous training. Others said the inspiring moment reflected the discipline and the shared values that define the Indian Army, the world’s largest standing army.

On  Saturday (December 13), he inspected the 157th passing out parade of the Indian Military Academy (IMA), which had a total of 525 officer cadets taking part. This group included cadets from the 157th Regular Course, 46th Technical Entry Scheme, and 140th Technical Graduate Course.

After undergoing rigorous training at the IMA, 491 cadets will now be commissioned as officers in the Indian Army. Along with the Indian cadets, 34 foreign cadets from 14 friendly countries also participated in the Autumn Term 2025 passing out parade, including representatives from Bangladesh, Bhutan, and Sri Lanka.

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) congratulated the new officers in his address for successfully completing their training. He praised them for their high level of discipline, leadership qualities, and endurance.

He charged them to uphold the glorious traditions of the Indian Army and serve the nation with loyalty, commitment, and honour. He stressed that joining the army marks the beginning of a lifelong duty and selfless service, urging them to uphold military traditions amid national challenges.

During the ceremony, top-performing cadets were recognised by Gen Dwivedi. Nishkal Dwivedi was awarded the prestigious ‘Sword of Honour’ and the gold medal for securing first place during training. Mohammad Safin Ashraf from Bangladesh secured the first place in merit among the foreign cadets. Other top performers included Badal Yadav, who won the silver medal for second place, and Kamaljeet Singh, who won the bronze medal.
