Artist Bose Krishnamachari, president of Kochi Muziris Biennale, and Member of Board of Trustees of Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF), resigned from both positions on January 14.

The announcement was made in a press release issued by Venu Vasudevan, chairperson of KBF. “Mr Bose has cited pressing family reasons for his resignation,” it stated. It added, “He has been one of the most influential figures in the growth and evolution of the Biennale.

The foundation has initiated the process of identifying an eminent person with high credentials in the art world to serve as President of Kochi Muziris Biennale.”

The sixth edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, titled “For the Time Being”, curated by performance artist Nikhil Chopra and and his team HH Art Spaces, that opened on December 12, 2025, is on till March 31.

Krishnamachari was also the co-founder of the biennale and co-curator of its first edition in 2012 along with artist Riyas Komu. Komu resigned from all management positions connected with the biennale in 2018, following allegations of sexual misconduct.

Recent years have also seen several organisational changes in the KBF. In 2024, former Chief Secretary to the Government of Kerala Venu Vasudevan was appointed as chairperson, and former United Nations official Thomas Varghese was made CEO of the foundation.
