BJP to counter Congress campaign on VB-G RAM G Act

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced plans to conduct district-level media briefings on January 7 and 8 across Telangana to create awareness and dispel ‘misconceptions’ about the VB-G RAM G Act, countering the Congress’s proposed nationwide campaign“Save MGNREGA Struggle’.

Addressing a press conference at the State office on Monday, BJP State president and former MLC N. Ramchander Rao said the Central government has already increased the daily wage to ₹272 and allocated substantial funds for the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (VB-G RAM G) programme. The funding pattern remains 60:40 between the Centre and State, as per existing norms.

He urged the Telangana government to withdraw its resolution passed in the Assembly to continue with MGNREGA and implement the new program without delay, stating that ‘failure to do so will amount to a betrayal of the poor and rural communities’.

Mr. Rao explained that the revamped Act is a modernized framework of MGNREGA, designed to meet the evolving needs of rural India and empower villages through sustainable development, self-reliance, and dignity for every worker. He added that real-time monitoring using GPS, mobile tracking and AI-based fraud detection will ensure benefits reach genuine beneficiaries, making it ‘impossible’ for public representatives to divert funds.

Questioning the Congress’s opposition to what he termed a ‘pro-poor initiative’, Mr. Rao said the new Act introduces a transparent, technology-driven system to eliminate corruption and ensure accountability. He alleged that the Act addresses past issues under MGNREGA, which witnessed large-scale scams and mismanagement during UPA rule.

Earlier in the day, Mr. Rao presided over a state-level workshop for cadres where he emphasized the importance of strengthening the party at the booth level in preparation for the upcoming municipal and GHMC elections. He directed booth-level workers to have complete knowledge of voters in their respective booths and identify areas of weakness from previous elections. He also stressed that every 50 voters should have a designated worker, as successfully implemented in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat.
